Arizona lawmakers want control of federal land

Arizona legislators are moving a bill forward to give the state more control over the scores of acres here that are in the hands of U.S. government agencies. If the measure is passed, the state could sell that land to private owners and the parcels would be taxed. The land also would not be subject to as many rules and regulations, according to sponsors of the bill. Skeptics say the legislation is aimed at bypassing federal environmental rules and landing sweetheart deals with developers.
