Tempe is ready to build, but where are the developers?

The city of Tempe is actively pitching itself to developers. “If you’ve got the right project, we’ve got the land,” said Kris Baxter-Ging, community development marketing specialist. “We need more developers to step up.” In particular, Tempe is wooing office developers at a time when very little office construction is taking place across the Valley. Still, Baxter-Ging said development makes sense in the long term. “We need more, and it will take awhile to build it,” Baxter-Ging said. In a press release, Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman reiterated her plea. “The time is now to build and we are ready to connect developers who have projects that fit our community with land owners and bankers to continue to improve our city,” Hallman said. “The commercial towers that were constructed in the last development cycle are now nearly full. To continue to proper as a city, we need to have office space available for the companies that want to make Tempe their home.”
