Arizona Public Service Co. gets go-ahead to build Yuma solar plant

Arizona Public Service Co. and the Arizona State Land Department have reached an agreement to build a 35-megawatt solar power plant near Yuma. Under the terms of the deal, APS will pay $10 million to lease the land for 35 years. The solar project will be the first that is built on state trust land. The new Foothills Solar Plant will be owned by APS and built by Atlanta-based AMEC. Construction will start on the first 17 megawatts in August, which are expected to go live by March 2013. The remainder of the plant will come online by the end of that year.
