Arizona may seek return of federally held lands
The Arizona Legislature took a step in trying to reclaim lands owned by the federal government with a bill passed by the House of Representatives on Monday.
Reuters reports the bill would seek to have the federal government return to state control more than 48,000 square miles it owns within Arizona by 2015.
The bill is similar to one recently passed in Utah. Arizona’s version still must go through the Senate and be signed by Gov. Jan Brewer. Critics of the bill say the measure is unconstitutional.
