Condos get red light from planning commission
A two-story complex of condos that would abut Gold Canyon Golf Course was given a recommendation of denial by the Pinal County Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday.
In a 7-1 vote (Chairman Philip Hartman dissented), the commission voted to recommend denial to the Board of Supervisors, who will make the final decision.
The glaring issue for most of the commission members was that the applicant, Carlo Kirim of Cholla Ridge LLC, wanted a zero-foot setback between the townhouses and an adjacent property at the northeast corner of the planned area development.
Despite the “zero-foot setback,” county planner Ashlee MacDonald told the commission there would actually be 10 feet between buildings, based on language in the PAD narrative.
Dale Gall, whose house is one of four buildings near the northeast corner of the PAD, was concerned about the proximity of the townhouses to his property.
“The zero setback in this concerns where vertical improvements can be made on an existing lot,” Vice Chairman Scott Riggins said. “What they’re proposing in this is to have a 10-foot lot setback from your lot,” Riggins told Gall.
