Gilbert medical center planning big expansion project
Banner Health is preparing for a major expansion at Banner Gateway Medical Center in Gilbert, including a new seven-story patient tower and the second phase of Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, according to plans submitted to the town.
The medical complex near U.S. 60 and Higley Road would also get a six-story parking garage, two additional floors in the existing hospital and a glass-paneled pedestrian bridge to link it all together, according to the plans. In all, the expansion would bring about 770,000 square feet in new development to the 60-acre site.
Preliminary construction plans that went before Gilbert's Design Review Board last week depict a large-scale project with architecture similar to the existing facilities at Banner Gateway. The buildings will incorporate cream-colored stone and glass panels as primary design elements.
Design Review Board members spoke favorably of the project but will review plans again in a formal meeting before voting on the site plans.
