Phoenix among national leaders in job growth
The Phoenix area added more than 40,000 news jobs between March of 2011 and the same month this year, ranking it among the biggest job gainers in the country.
New research from On Numbers shows Phoenix ranked seventh among the 100 largest U.S. metros for total job growth by adding 40,300 jobs. Phoenix ranked 16th for its percentage job growth, at 2.35 percent between March 2011 and March of this year.
All but 14 of the nation's 100 biggest metropolitan areas added jobs during the past 12 months.
Eighty-six major markets increased their nonfarm employment between March 2011 and the same month this year, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Thirteen markets suffered employment declines during the past year, and one was unchanged.
New York City and Stockton, Calif., posted the biggest year-to-year gains. The New York area, which extends into the neighboring states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, enjoyed the largest increase in raw numbers, adding 112,500 jobs, Stockton posted the biggest jump in relative terms, expanding its employment base by 5.1 percent.
