Phoenix cracks top 10 for population growth

It was a rough few years, but Phoenix is back in among the fastest growing metro areas in the U.S. At least for last year. Phoenix ranked No. 10 on a list recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau with population growth of 54,166 people between July 2010 and July 2011. When you do the math, that 1.3 percent growth rate is not exactly what the Valley — home to those ever expanding growth numbers of between 3 and 5 percent — had in mind when it came to growing again. But growth is growth, and considering for the past few years it was less than 1 percent, anything is an improvement. Texas topped the list with the Dallas metro area in the top spot, having added 126,037 people in the same time frame, and Houston was No. 2, adding 110,068.
