Arizona-New Mexico SunZia power line gets environmental report
A power line that would stretch between Arizona and New Mexico that has been pitched as a possible connection for the region’s solar and wind industry has received its draft environmental report.
The Bureau of Land Management released the report on the proposed SunZia power line on Friday. The release of that report now means that the public will have 90 days to comment on the proposal.
Those comments could be incorporated into a final environmental statement to be released later this year.
SunZia has been under review since 2009. It would stretch 500 miles from central New Mexico through southern Arizona. The line runs through five substations and could provide up to 3 gigawatts of new capacity.
If the final draft is approved, construction on the line could begin by next year with it entering into service in 2016.
