Phoenix near top for international migration
The Phoenix-Mesa-Glendale metro area ranked 13th in the nation for highest net migration between July 2010 and July 2011, based on U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
During that period, the Phoenix area gained 15,866 residents through international migration -- many more than through net domestic migration, which was only 5,585.
The U.S. Census Bureau uses a simple formula to determine net migration patterns for a metropolitan area, counting how many people move into the area from elsewhere during a given period and then subtracting the number of people who leave during that time.
An average of 58.8 people migrated into the greater Phoenix area each day. The total net migration for the 12-month period was 21,451.
