Arizona ranks third for construction Job growth in May
The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows the nation’s construction workforce continued dwindling in May, yet Arizona was among the minority of states that boasted year-over-year gains in the sector.
Arizona saw the third highest spike in the nation last month in terms of the number of new construction jobs compared to last year, trailing closely behind only Texas and California in first and second places, respectively, according to the BLS data compiled and released Friday by the Associated General Contractors of America.
The Grand Canyon state was among only 20 that reported year-over-year gains in construction jobs in May, the report said.
The 121,100 total construction jobs reported in Arizona last month was up 11,000 from last year. Texas reported 15,600 new construction jobs, and California saw 11,700 new jobs, the report said.
Florida, on the other hand, lost the most construction jobs at 22,220, followed by Illinois’s loss of 12,200 jobs and New York’s 12,100 job loss.
