Report: AZ tech jobs more stable than U.S.
Technology jobs in Arizona are more stable than nationally, according to a report commissioned by Science Foundation Arizona to judge the sector and the group’s impact.
The study, conducted by the Battelle Memorial Institute, found that while there is a large base of technology jobs in the state, leaders need to do more as the prospect of future job growth lags, said Mitch Horowitz, vice president and managing director of the company’s Technology Partnership Practice.
“In some ways, it demonstrates that technology is here and well grounded, even if we could do more,” he said.
The study, a continuation of one commissioned last year by SFAZ, also looks at the impact the organization is having through funding endeavors ranging from bioscience and aerospace to solar energy.
Batelle found that through SFAZ and its Arizona 21st Century fund, roughly $50.4 million in 83 grants was invested, developing about 757 jobs, 50 patents either filed or issued, nine technology licenses and 11 new companies.
