December housing starts stronger in Pima, led by D.R. Horton

Housing starts in Pima County were surprisingly high in December, largely due to national builder D.R. Horton pulling 60 permits to build new homes. There were 158 new-home permits issued last month, said John L. Strobeck's monthly housing report, with D.R. Horton accounting for more than any other builder. In November, 132 new-home permits were issued. It is typical to experience a seasonal decline in housing starts at the end of the year, noted Strobeck, of Bright Future Business Consultants. Home prices continued their downward slide, reaching a level close to where they were in 2004. But they may be reaching bottom, the report said.
