Phoenix population gains 1.8% in 2009

Phoenix-area population grew by 1.8 percent from July 2008 to July 2009 and 34.2 percent since 2000, according to Census Bureau released population estimates for all 940 metropolitan and micropolitan areas across the country Tuesday. That puts the region’s population at 4.36 million. The figures do not come from the decennial census that is presently underway, but reflect the population situation as of July 1, 2009. Tucson’s population grew to 1.02 million in 2009, up from 843,746 in 2000. Prescott is the next most populous area, growing to 196,972 people, up from 167,517,
