GPEC talking to dozen companies in DC about locating jobs in Arizona

Greater Phoenix Economic Council CEO Barry Broome said Tuesday his group is meeting with a dozen companies in the Washington area that are interested in locating operations and jobs in Arizona. Broome said he’s confident at least two or three of those companies will end up creating jobs in Arizona. He said most of the meetings are with medical technology companies in the Washington suburbs. Montgomery County, Md., has a substantial biomedical and medical device sector along Interstate 270. GPEC is leading an Arizona economic delegation in Washington this week. They are meeting with federal agencies about stimulus money and other federal spending, and with national news media about the state’s image and economic landscape. The delegation also is lobbying to locate F-35 fighter training at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale. The delegation includes Broome, Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane, Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard, Gov. Jan Brewer, and GPEC Chairman and Arizona Cardinals President Michael Bidwill.
