Regional Queen Creek shopping center on hold
Queen Creek officials are uncertain about future plans for a regional shopping center in their community.
Doreen Cott, Queen Creek's economic development director, said town staff once anticipated developers might start work on Meridian Crossing's first phase in 2014.
Meridian Crossing is to include a master-planned community, Catholic HealthCare West medical center, and offices on 500 acres at the southwestern corner of Rittenhouse and Riggs roads.
"At the time when we were doing projections, it seemed reasonable that possibly a small part of it would pull permits," she said. "That's no longer valid."
Karen Maurer, assistant vice president of development relations at Phoenix-based Westcor, one of several partners on the project, said her company has always maintained the project would be driven by the market.
