30-year mortgage rates fall again

The average rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage fell to a new low this week, and adjustable-rate mortgages also edged lower. Freddie Mac says a 30-year fixed loan averaged 4.57 percent in the week ending July 8, down from 4.58 percent last week. That’s the lowest a 30-year fix has been since at least 1971, when Freddie Mac began keeping track. Average rates on increasingly popular 15-year fixed-rate mortgages moved slightly higher, from 4.04 percent last week to 4.07 percent this week. A one-year adjustable-rate mortgage averaged 3.75 percent this week, down from 3.80 last week.
