Some residents oppose plan for more homes at community

A proposal to rezone 157 acres in the Morrison Ranch community near Elliot and Recker roads is drawing opposition from residents who are concerned about the potential loss of commercial land at the intersection's southeastern corner. The proposed zoning change, which went before the Planning Commission on Wednesday, includes the elimination of about nine acres of community commercial zoning to make way for more single-family housing. The commercial land would have been large enough for a drugstore and a few smaller shops, developer Scott Morrison said. Elliot Groves at Morrison Ranch would include about 500 lots, making way for about 1,500 new residents. But seven current residents of other Morrison Ranch neighborhoods on Wednesday lamented the loss of a conveniently located commercial corner.
