Luxury-tower plan rekindles debate over Scottsdale skyline
A plan to build up to 1,100 luxury apartments at Scottsdale and Camelback roads has reignited a debate among merchants, residents and city officials over building heights in downtown Scottsdale.
Earlier this month, a divided Scottsdale City Council approved a downtown infill-incentive district that Councilman Bob Littlefield warned could bring 150-foot-tall buildings into the area. The district allows buildings of up to 150 feet north of the Arizona Canal and surrounding the Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center.
Gray Development Group, the developer of the proposed $200 million, two-building apartment complex named Scottsdale Riverwalk, has initiated a petition drive to enlist support for the project, which as initially envisioned could bring at least one building close to 150 feet.
Hundreds of signatures have been collected in favor of the project, said developer spokesman Jason Rose.
