Gilbert Council clears way for more homes at Morrison Ranch

The Gilbert Town Council on Thursday approved a proposal that paves the way for about 500 new homes in Morrison Ranch. The zoning case, which applies to 157 acres near Elliot and Recker roads, removes nine acres of commercial land to make way for a new community, Elliot Groves. The proposal won Planning Commission approval on Wednesday. The proposal initially sparked some opposition from local residents concerned about the loss of commercial land. But Morrison Ranch partner Scott Morrison has said that the corner would never be viable for commercial development. No residents attended Thursday's session. The proposal was approved by a 7-0 vote.
