Work may start on new 500-home Gilbert site next year
The concept for Cooley Station, a mixed-use development with an urban core, has won it the title of "Gilbert's Mill Avenue" from planners and proponents.
But a weak economy has stolen much of the project's momentum, and the 700-acre site near Recker and Williams Field roads remains vacant.
That may be about to change.
Blandford Homes is moving forward with plans to build more than 500 houses on the southeastern end of the community, said Paul Dugas, director of land development for Pinnacle Ridge Holdings. While the company is still working out planning details with town officials, it hopes to begin construction in the first half of next year, Dugas said.
Dugas declined to discuss pricing for the new homes but said there would be four series of houses to ensure a diverse look.
