American Solar, Calex team on new solar subdivision
American Solar Electric and Calex Homes Inc. are partnering on a new solar power subdivision in Chandler.
Calex’s homes in Artesian Ranch will have the option of including a 3- or 5-kilowatt photovoltaic system that is built into the roof of the homes with panels that look like tiles.
The systems could save homeowners between $569 and $1,005 annually on their electric bill, those working on the project said.
Scottsdale-based Calex is joining a growing number of builders offering solar at least as an option on its homes. Meritage Homes opened two Valley subdivisions this summer and announced this week it will be offering another subdivision at the Verrado development in Buckeye with solar as a standard feature.
Scottsdale-based American Solar Electric has worked with several builders in the past two years to install solar, including with Shea Homes at that company’s Trilogy developments in the Valley. The company has received so much interest from home builders that it created a home builder division.
“Our home builder division is one of the most experienced groups in the country in regards to performing turnkey installations of integrated solar electric systems,” said Sean Seitz, president of American Solar Electric, in a company statement.
