Former Scottsdale Riverwalk takes a step

Scottsdale’s Planning Commission is recommending the city council sign off on a downtown project proposed by Gray Development for a vacant site just north of Scottsdale and Camelback roads. The former Scottsdale Riverwalk site, along the Arizona Canal, is now being called Blue Sky. The commission unanimously made the recommendation for the 4.3-acre site based on revisions to the original plan for up to 1,200 luxury apartments. Heights now range from 37 feet to 133 feet in a small portion of the project, according to an announcement today from Gray. Original plans called for heights up to 148 feet. The plan also calls for 43 percent of the project to be open space, including what the developer calls “pocket parks,” plus a $250,000 contribution for public art. Some 15,000 square feet of retail space also is planned as well as a 16,000-square-foot health and lifestyle club. The goal is for the project to be LEED certified.
