Energize Phoenix revs up $25M in grants
Multi-family housing owners along a 10-mile stretch of the light rail corridor will be the first in line for $25 million in grants under the Energize Phoenix program, with homeowners and businesses to follow quickly.
The city of Phoenix began taking applications Tuesday for the joint public-private program that seeks to provide energy efficiency measures for about 2,000 homes and more than 30 million square feet of commercial and industrial space.
Phoenix officials hope to leverage the funds received from the U.S. Department of Energy through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon said the three-year pilot program will create about 2,000 jobs, primarily in the energy efficiency industry, and will produce a greener building stock for the city and put money back into the pockets of those who use the program.
