Cave Creek OKs Walmart, incumbents win Phoenix races

Cave Creek voters approved ballot measures Tuesday that will clear the way for a Walmart Supercenter to be located in the northern Phoenix suburb. Three out of four voters in Cave Creek supported Propositions 400 and 401, which will allow a Walmart store to be built at Cave Creek Road and Carefree Highway. Backers welcome the potential sales tax revenue generated by the big box stores while detractors worry about the impact on Cave Creek’s “old west” and desert image. The anti-climatic election night came after vandalism in the race that included vandals spray painting “Kill Obama” on campaign signs. The U.S. Secret Service and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the threats. In Phoenix, incumbent City Council members Bill Gates and Sal DiCiccio won run-off elections, according to unofficial results. DiCiccio bested Dana Marie Kennedy in a contentious race.
