Arizona ranks 2nd in hiring opportunities
Arizona and the Phoenix area will offer some of the best hiring opportunities in the country in the next quarter, according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.
The nationwide survey of 18,000 employers being released today shows that Arizona ranked second behind Louisiana in hiring measures.
The Phoenix area tied for fourth place with Tulsa among metro regions, trailing Baton Rouge, Seattle-Tacoma and Milwaukee.
The high rankings are consistent with recent U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data that indicated the Phoenix area in October as having the nation's second-highest job growth behind Washington, D.C. The Valley's job growth, though, was just 1.3 percent compared with the same month in 2009. The metro area's workforce grew by about 24,300 employees.
The Manpower survey showed that 18 percent of Phoenix-area employers plan to increase their staffs in the first quarter, and only 6 percent plan to decrease their workforces. Statewide, 17 percent plan to hire and 6 percent plan to shrink staffs.
