Phoenix added 4 percent or 3,100 construction jobs
Construction employment in the Tucson metro area fell 6 percent, or by 900 jobs, in the yearlong period ending Nov. 30, while Phoenix added 4 percent or 3,100 jobs, according to the Associated General Contractors of America.
Phoenix's gain was the largest among any U.S. metro area monitored by the group.
Overall, construction employment either increased or remained steady in a growing number of metropolitan areas - 120 of 337 - between November 2009 and November 2010, the association says in a new analysis of federal employment data.
Construction employment is improving slightly in large part because of temporary federal funding for stimulus and military construction, association officials said.
