TRW Automotive tries again to sell facility
Airbag maker TRW Automotive has revived a 3-year-old effort to sell its manufacturing facilities on Germann Road in east Mesa, consisting of six large buildings on 375 acres zoned for heavy-industrial use.
Company representatives said they have retained a commercial-real-estate broker, Commercial Properties Inc./CORFAC International of Tempe, and are actively seeking a buyer now that the stalled commercial-real-estate market has begun to exhibit renewed signs of life.
The Cleveland-based TRW, once a major East Valley employer, has reduced its local workforce over the past 15 years from a peak of about 3,500 workers to its current 400 workers.
Those workers would not be affected by the proposed sale, a company spokesman said.
TRW closed and sold one of its two Mesa manufacturing sites, at 4051 N. Higley Road, in 2005. That property is now occupied by Scandinavian weapons manufacturer Nammo Talley Inc.
TRW decided in 2007 to sell the remaining property, at 11202 E. Germann Road, where its current operations only take up two of six buildings. Workers would not lose their jobs under the deal TRW is proposing, which includes leasing back the two buildings from the buyer.
