Westcor asks to delay Estrella Falls shopping-mall project

Mall developer Westcor wants to delay construction on the southwest Valley's first regional mall by several years. This is the third time the developer has delayed the project. But this time, Westcor wants as much as four extra years to finish Estrella Falls in Goodyear. "We are unable to deliver the mall as planned," Garrett Newland, Westcor vice president of development, told Goodyear's City Council on Monday. Under a development agreement with Goodyear , Westcor is required to finish the mall by the end of 2012. Because of the recession, Westcor is seeking to extend that deadline through at least the end of 2014, or possibly 2016. The council will decide on the deal Dec. 7.
