Phoenix job openings up 43% in past year

After returning to prerecession levels, nationwide job openings continued to increase in April with 33.9 percent year-over-year growth and 6.7 percent month-over-month, according to a report Wednesday by SimplyHired.com. The rebound is even stronger in Phoenix, where April's year-over-year growth checked in at 43 percent, and month-to-month growth reached 8 percent. Mountain View, Calif.-based SimplyHired CEO Gautam Codhwani said that along with the improved numbers, "the government released the most optimistic employment report we’ve seen in a long time. The continued job growth our site has seen in April will likely result in more hires in the coming months." One dip was seen in the travel industry, where hiring decreased 15.6 percent in April, nearly two months after crude oil prices surpassed $100 per barrel.
