Huge Pinal County community gets 1 more shot for approval this year

Framers of a conceptual plan to transform 275 square miles of state land into a sustainable desert community near the Superstition Mountains have one last shot at getting their vision on the books this year. Pinal County supervisors Wednesday sent back to zoning commissioners a major amendment to the county's comprehensive plan as proposed by the State Land Department. It contains an outline for land use and conservation, economic development and transportation within the Superstition Vistas project area. The amendment has been modified since first appearing before the commission to include, as state land officials say, "more palatable" options for housing density and a plan to study locations for a job corridor. Planning and zoning commissioners review amendments before the supervisors can vote on them. Because changes to the amendment have been made, the process begins anew.
