Shea, KB, Ashton Woods lead home-builder rankings

Shea Homes, KB Home and Ashton Woods topped a 2009 J.D. Power and Associates for Valley builders. Shea was first with a score of 903 on a 1,000-point scale that evaluates a builder's workmanship, home value, sales and staff, and recreational amenities. KB Home was next at 890 followed by Ashton Woods at 887. The average score for Valley builders was 843. "The tough new-home market has created a fiercely competitive environment in which only the strongest companies have survived," said Paula Sonkin, a J.D. Power vice president. "Fortunately, for buyers this has resulted in a notable improvement in with homebuilders and new-home quality overall." Survey scores in the Valley were up 60 points from the previous year.
