A resolution expressing concerns that Casa Grande has about the huge Superstition Vistas project in northern Pinal County was passed unanimously Monday night by the City Council.
The site covers 275 square miles of undeveloped Arizona state trust land, or about the size of Mesa, Chandler, Tempe and Gilbert combined.
Superstition Vistas will be discussed Wednesday morning by the county Board of Supervisors. Casa Grande has not been part of the planning, but issued the resolution “because the project has potentially dramatic impacts on the residents of Casa Grande and Pinal County.”
The city listed the main points of concern in a staff report accompanying the resolution. The city feels there is a need to address how much water the project would use when entirely built out and where that water would be found. The state or any eventual owner needs to show “a sustainable source of water for the project and demonstrate that this water source would not adversely or unduly impact available water for other areas within Pinal County or the Pinal County Active Management Area,” the resolution says.
